Other Gifts

Giving to Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity means many things to many people; for which we have many options. If you, like us, are committed to creating affordable housing, eliminating substandard housing, and helping Vermonters in need, we encourage you to give what you can.

In addition to donating cash, donating cars, and donating materials and services, GMHfH supporters give in many other ways. Below is a partial list of alternative ways to give. We encourage you to always consult your financial and tax advisors if you are making a planned gift. If you have another way in which you would like to give to Habitat, please contact us at 802-872-8726 or advancement@vermonthabitat.org.

Alternative Gifts for Holidays & Special Occasions
If you need a gift for the person who has everyone, you may make a donation to Habitat in honor of that person. We will send them a holiday, birthday or other card to notify them of your gift.

If you are person who has everything, encourage your family and friends to give to Habitat in lieu of a wrapped gift. You may customize our message for notes or email messages to tell them about your wishes.

Payroll Deductions & Matching Gifts
Many companies allow employees to make payroll deductions to charities as well as match gifts that you make. Ask your HR department if you can designate a one-time or ongoing gift to GMHfH to support our mission. See our list of current matching gift partners or contact us to find out how we can help you make this happen at your workplace.

Stock Gifts
Gifts of appreciated securities, such as stocks, can offer donors a double benefit. When donated to Habitat, market value of the stock is tax-deductible and you avoid capital gains taxation. However this must be done before the stock is sold. Donors will not receive this tax benefit if stock is sold in their names.

To give stock, please contact us 802-872-8726 or advancement@vermonthabitat.org.

Donors may name Habitat as a beneficiary in their Wills using simple wording such as: “I give, devise, and bequeath to Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization in Williston, Vermont, the sum of $__________ (or describe any real or personal property), to be used for general purposes.

Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Life Estate Reserved
Annuities, Trusts, and Estate Reserve provide benefits to donors and their families now and in the future. There are options to donate assets to us now and receive payments over your lifetime.

Given the complexities and variety of these options for a donor to receive payments or continue to use real estate through his or her lifetime, we ask that you contact us or your financial planner for details.

Life Insurance
GMHfH can be designated as a beneficiary of existing or new life insurance policies. At the time of death, life insurance policies designated to Habitat are tax-deductible.

Retirement Plans
Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity can be named as beneficiary of an Individual Retirement Plan (IRA), Keogh Plan, 401(k), 403(b) or other qualified pension plan. Payments of such benefits may decrease estate tax liability that is often payable on these funds at the time of the donor’s death.
