| St. Micheal's Fall Fundraiser Fun For All | | Print | |

The event was multi-faceted, designed for adults and children alike to feel comfortable and have fun with a variety of games, including a coloring station; rubber ducky pick-up; pie eating contest; face painting; bobbing for apples; karaoke. The silent auction included items generously donated by Papa Franks’ Italian Restaurant in Winooski, Essex Cinemas, Lake Champlain and Lindt Chocolates, Pizza Putt, Links at Lane Farm, ECCO Center. A raffle was included for students wishing to support the event and unable to attend in person. Purple Knight Pizza provided food for all, and Shaw’s donated drinks and cookies. On a personal note, Wendy was born in Nigeria and raised in England. Currently, she is a business major with a minor in marketing and sociology. Her plans for the future include returning to both countries to immerse herself in different cultures and explore the possibilities for a career in marketing. Hearing her speak of her interest in sociology and different cultures, I couldn’t help asking whether “Wendy” is a nickname. In Nigerian culture, the grandmother names the child: she chose Yewande from her own grandmother and meaning “Mother Has Returned.” ‘Wendy’ is from her parents. If the success of this fundraiser is any indication, Wendy has been aptly named! Thank you Wendy, for your organization, creativity and energy; and all those at St. Michaels’ College who supported her in this project! |
