A Salute To The 2007 Construction Volunteers | Print |  E-mail

Construction Leaders -- who plan, guide, teach and "make houses happen" with the help of day supervisors, crew leaders and on-site volunteer coordinators.

Eighteen Supporting Churches -- whose liaisons and work crews we thank for work well and carefully done; with special note to the Lutheran Churches in Chittenden County, for generously
supporting the Thrivent Build project.

Thirteen Businesses and Retail Companies
-- who ably supported us with talent, time and energy, on one or more workdays through out the build season.  Eleven different departments from IBM and Pizzagalli, in particular, donated fifteen Wednesdays, for which we are very grateful. Green Mt Coffee Roasters, Bruegger's Café and Burton Co donated several days also.  General Dynamics crews did some extra lifting (think roof trusses etc.!) on several occasions.

Colleges -- University of Vermont, St Michael's College and Champlain College sent teams of strong, enthusiastic students to assist.  St Michael's Move program continues to be one of our most supportive donors.  The UVM TREK program for incoming freshmen sent a crew of ten for a full week in August, and then the UVM Habitat Club and Tri Delta Sorority donated three days in the fall.  Champlain College students came as a group and separately; a group of Champlain Alumni and staff came two other days.

Non-Profit Groups -- Ten non-profits demonstrated their abilities to build decent affordable housing in the Burlington area; and the Lion' Club supported us by baking and delivering snacks for a month of Wednesdays during October.  The VNA, Homeland Security, Champlain Valley League, and Burlington Planning and Zoning Office, primarily of women, helped boost our numbers for the Lowe's Women Build project. The "Old Pros" brought their expertise and skill in finish work to all our houses - what would we do without them?!
