Penny and Willy LeBeau have big plans for their family's future. They hope to build a garage, plant some shrubs and flowers and finish off their basement so their children have a place to play all year long. What makes them different from any other family? Nothing really except they now have a chance to make these dreams a reality with the help of Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity. The Lebeau’s are our newest Habitat Partner Family. They have just been selected as the soon to be owners of our latest build project in Burlington. We hope to begin construction on their Elmwood Avenue home in the late fall of this year. “Excitement” was the word Penny chose when asked to describe the experience of being a Habitat Partner Family. Unlike their apartment, Penny is excited about having a place she can personalize and put her own stamp on. Most importantly Penny is excited to have a home where her children will feel comfortable inviting their friends over for the afternoon or hosting a sleepover. The LeBeau’s are even excited about getting their hands dirty and completing their 400 hour sweat equity home owner requirement. Penny says they can’t wait to start working on their home and be involved in the process from top to bottom. Working side by side with volunteers and contractors homeowners can see that GMHfH builds decent affordable homes of great quality. That’s good news for the LeBeau’s three children who suffer from asthma and related respiratory problems. The LeBeau’s are looking forward to the ground breaking this fall and all of the positive changes that will come from having a home of their own. Penny says, “Finally being a homeowner is something that will change us all for the better.” |
