| Volunteer Spotlight: Amy Richardson | | Print | |
Amy with our Executive Director, David Mullin, volunteering at our 2010 Lowe’s Women Build Event. Amy Richardson has been a very active member of GMHfH for the past three years. Starting in early 2007, after realizing there were less volunteer opportunities at her children’s middle school than previously at their elementary school, Amy looked to the local community to volunteer. She came across a GMHfH posting requesting help with database management work. With just some basic database training, she was able to pull together the annual Phonathon that year. Since then, Amy has continued to dedicate her time to working with GMHfH. She is the Volunteer Coordinator, in charge of scheduling all construction related volunteers. She posts the volunteer opportunities on the GMHfH website, monitors sign-ups, handles volunteer inquiries, manages all email contacts with construction volunteers, and thanks them for their help. She fills in and takes minutes during monthly Board meetings whenever the Board Secretary is absent. And, if that is not enough, she has agreed to take on the task of compiling and organizing all of the protocols for the Board Committees. Development Director Tamira Martel says of Amy, “You could not ask for a volunteer who is more committed to a cause than Amy. She is the perfect volunteer. Ready and willing to step in and do whatever the organization needs. In addition, she also takes the initiative and goes the extra mile when she sees an area of need or an opportunity to streamline a process.” Amy likes that Habitat has a direct impact on families’ lives each year and that the donation money is continually reinvested into new homes for families in need. She notes that each year it is a challenge to try to involve all of the individuals, congregations, companies, and organizations in the area who want to volunteer. If there could only be more land, donations, and skilled construction supervisors, Amy knows GMHfH could be building many more homes each year to fill the need that is out there. |
