You Can Build It!: How Do Hot Dogs = Houses? | Print |  E-mail

For the past several years GMHfH has hosted a picnic at Shelburne Farms to help raise the money to build affordable homes for local families in need. Last year more than 400 people came out to support Habitat and enjoy a day of food, games, live music, and fun along the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, August 29th at Shelburne Farms.

This community event has grown every year. It attracts both families and individuals; young and old alike. Last year’s picnic raised enough money to help make it possible to complete the construction of our five home subdivision in Milton.

This year’s proceeds will go towards the construction of the first ever affordable housing project in Charlotte. GMHfH will build three affordable homes for local families on a parcel of land off Greenbush Road in Charlotte. One of the three homes will have a groundbreaking passive solar design. It will be the first house in New England to meet the new design standards set by the Passive House Institute and perhaps be the greenest most energy efficient house to be built in our region.

Join us on August 29 to celebrate and support the special way Habitat helps people achieve the dream of every family: homeownership.

Shelburne Farms is the perfect setting for a picnic. Cooks from the Texas Roadhouse in Williston will be grilling up  lots of delicious food for your pleasure. Badminton, croquet and many other family friendly activities will be enjoyed.

Tickets are only $10 per person or $25 for a family of three or more. Please order your tickets today online at: www.VermontHabitat.org or by calling GMHfH at (802) 872 - 8726.

The success of last year’s picnic was due to the overwhelming participation of our donors and volunteers. Your support and ticket sales can assist our efforts to complete three more Habitat houses this year for local families.
